Rajasthan trip itinerary
Kumbhalgarh
and Udaipur in April 2017.
Day
1: Started at 4.30 AM from Pune and reached Gandhi Nagar at around 5 PM.
We booked ourselfs in Hotel Middletown near
InfoCity Kudasan, Gandhi Nagar. That evening we visited Adalaj
Stepwell and Akshardham
temple.
You
need to adhere to a dress code in Akshardham temple. Shorts, sleeveless, etc is
not allowed. But you can get a pair of trousers on rent in case
you are wearing shorts.
No shortage of parking space.
Day
2: Left hotel at 6 AM for Mount Abu. We reached Mount Abu at around
9/10 AM. The Dilwara temples do not open before 12 noon and hence couldn't
visit them. And since it was the month of April, there wasn’t anything else to
do there so we left for our main destination, Kumbhalgarh.
We
reached our destination, Club Mahindra, a little after lunch hour.
Day
3: Spent the day relaxing in the hotel. Visited Kumbhalgarh fort in the
evening. It’s a must visit place. The light and sound show is also worth
watching.
Day
4: We booked a jungle safari in the
morning. The booking was done through Club Mahindra. Around 6 people can be
accommodated in the open jeep. It’s a nice drive through the forest for around
2 hours. Not many animals/ birds to see, but good flora fauna.
We visited the Ranakpur
Jain Temples in the evening.
These are beautiful marble temples. Again there is a dress code here and
photography post 5 PM is not allowed. Plan accordingly.
Day
5: We left for Udaipur in the morning. On the way, we visited Maharana Rana Pratap museum at
Haldighati and the Eklanji temple.
Day
6: We completed the tour of the palace in the morning. Reach the palace as
early as possible to avoid the rush.
In the evening we went to Karni Mata
temple. Visit the temple just before sunset since the temple has a beautiful
view and you can enjoy the short ropeway ride.
You
can take a boat ride at Lake Pichola after the temple visit.
The
boat ride is available from the Palace premises as well as from outside. We
noticed that the prices for the boat ride from the Palace premises is
exorbitant.
Day
7: Since we weren't interested in the markets in Udaipur and didn’t want to
visit the car museum either, we decided to drive to Chittorgarh fort. It’s a
day drive from Udaipur and you can be back by end of day.
Check
the Government handloom shop on the fort premises if you are interested in buying sarees
or quilts. They have some interesting options in both.
Day
8: Plan was to get back home. On the way, found Champaner
on the map and decided to take a quick detour. It was totally worth it.
Visit
the Jama Mosque
and the Kalika
Mata temple at Pavagadh. The ropeway here is good fun, after which you need
to walk quite a bit to the temple which is located at the top of the hill.
After
this detour we decided to stop over at Surat for the night before heading home.
Do try the veg thali at Sasumaa in Surat.
Day
9: Back home from Surat.
